In 1933 a 13 yr. old Ray Harryhausen was sitting in Grauman’s Chinese Theater;  the feature presentation was King Kong.  When the movie was over, Ray’s passion was ignited and eventually his pioneering work in special effects would be the standard future special effects wizards would aspire to meet or exceed.

Slinky Remembers Roger Ebert

This afternoon, the most important thumb in the world left us.

Roger Ebert was one of the greatest film critics in history. He, along with his friend and colleague (and also rival newspaper critic) Gene Siskel built an empire centered around a love and passion for films and movies. We lost Siskel in 1999, but the duo’s influence continues to this day. Their patented “Thumbs Up” or “Thumbs Down” review system set the standard for simplified film rating scales (Hate or Great, anyone?). For many years, it was unheard of to see a well-made movie’s poster or advertisement not quote Siskel or Ebert as giving it one or two thumbs up.
